Womanhood Don't Begin in Menstrual Cycles (poetry)

“Womanhood Don’t Begin in Menstrual Cycles” is Yecheilyah’s third collection of poetry. The theme for this piece is womanhood but also includes other themes. While womanhood does begin in menstrual cycles from the physical perspective, many young women in the African American community are not taught true womanhood today. The menstruation isn’t seen as the great “Welcome to Womanhood” “Rite of Passage” that it was centuries ago, or that it still is in other countries and cultures. “Womanhood Don’t Begin in Menstrual Cycles", means that the menstrual cycle does not mean that her mind will necessarily be on the same accord with her body, and that she has made the proper transition from girlhood to womanhood.
